College Application
If the preceding Preparation Phase is hands-on, the Application Phase is ultra hands-on. All that has been accomplished, produced, and accumulated during the Preparation Phase will now be used.
Thanksgiving is an easy deadline date to remember for the transition from Preparation to Application. Kudos to those ready to begin in October or early November. Their reward will be a more enjoyable and stress-free year-end holiday season.
Application Phase - What to know and do
Details and Deadlines
• The school list is now small, so know every application detail and deadline inside and out.
Have an Organization System
• Trap the details and information for each school. Have a "Keep it-Find it-Add to it" mindset.
Plan and Schedule • Don't procrastinate. The list is small. Plan out what needs doing by date and deadline.
Execute the Plan • Planning's great but not enough. You have to do it. Know the plan and DO the plan.
Recommendations • You will need at least three - your guidance counselor and two teachers. Make arrangements for these.
Special Considerations • Artists, actors, musicians, athletes, and others pursuing talent and performance-related programs may have unique requirements. Know what they are!
The Essay and Interview • Don't wing them. Don't avoid them. Helpful resources abound. Be prepared.
Financial Aid • FAFSA filing begins January 1st. Know what's needed. Plan to be involved in the process.
SAT and ACT Scores • Your target schools need them. It's your job to see that they get them. Know what to do.
Follow Through and Follow UP • Be detailed. Be complete. Be on top of every picky point. Take ownership of YOUR process.
